The agents for quarterback Daniel Jones are currently on the ground in East Rutherford meeting with the New York Giants and general manager Joe Schoen.

After meeting each day at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine and then leaving Indianapolis without a deal, there were fears that a deal wouldn’t be reached. However, over the past 24 hours, the financial gap between the two sides has closed “significantly,” reports Albert Breer.

As part of @TheMMQB this week—The @Giants and Daniel Jones’ agents have closed the financial gap significantly. They met multiple times in Jersey. They’ll meet again today in hopes of doing something ahead of Tuesday’s franchise-tag deadline.

The Giants and Jones have until 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday to reach an agreement on a long-term deal. If time runs out, Schoen will be forced to use the franchise tag on his quarterback and risk losing running back Saquon Barkley to free agency.

Reports have suggested that the Giants offered Jones somewhere in the neighborhood of $35 million to $39 million annually, while the quarterback was seeking as much as $48 million per season on average.

But Jones would have stood to lose by a continued holdout. Not only would the team potentially lose Barkley, his No. 1 offensive weapon, but he would also have been forced to play the 2023 season on the franchise tag, which carries a guaranteed value of $32.42 million.
