The Seattle Seahawks are always in the hunt for the Lombardi, but here are two reasons why they’ll actually win it in 2021.

After a hot start in 2020, the Seattle Seahawks fizzled out down the stretch, eventually losing to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Since then, a lot has happened, one of the most notable things being quarterback Russell Wilson voicing his frustrations with the team.

It looks like things have settled for now, as Wilson is at the team’s minicamp and verbalized his commitment to the organization. With their eyes set on the 2021 season, there are a couple of reasons why Seattle can end the year as NFL champions.

Reason No. 1: The plethora of talent on offense

Not a lot of teams in the NFL can say that they have two legit No. 1 receivers on their roster. The Seahawks are one of them—the duo of Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf combined for 2,357 yards and 20 touchdowns last season, providing an interchangeable high-low option for Russell Wilson. Utilizing the two star receivers will have Seattle right in the thick of things come the postseason.

Lockett’s ability to play in the slot or outside make the route tree almost endless. His shiftiness off the line and his speed make him a tough cover for any cornerback. Metcalf’s freakish figure and supreme athleticism give Wilson a jump ball option and a big body to throw to across the middle.

Wilson was an MVP candidate early on in 2020, but turnovers and holding onto the ball cost him later in the year. The team has tried to sure up the offensive line after he publicly bashed them, saying he’s tired of getting hit so much. If he can play MVP-caliber football for 16 games, he could very well have this team hoisting the Lombardi trophy.

Pete Carroll is a run-first guy, so investing in the offensive line means he wants to run the ball more. They re-signed Chris Carson, who can be a versatile back when healthy. Rashard Penny has shown glimpses of his potential; maybe a fixed line will help him break out this season.

Seattle’s offense is ripe with young talent; now it’s a matter of putting it together. If they line blocks well, Wilson makes quick decisions, and the receiver continues to shine, there’s no reason why they can’t carry the team to a Super Bowl.
